Psalm 46 (Be Still, O My Soul)

Our psalm this morning is Psalm 46, a psalm about God dwelling with his people, even in troubled times. The psalmist uses the image of a river, an image that Jesus used to speak of the Holy Spirit and also an image we see in the new creation of Revelation 21-22. "There is a city whose streams make glad the city of God" (Psalm 46:4).

---Lyrics---

God is our refuge; He is our strength,
A very present help in troubled times.
We will not tremble, though the earth gives way,
Though the mountains fall into the roaring sea.

There is a river whose streams make us glad,
For God dwells with His people; He is our strength.

Be still, O my soul, and know that He is God.
Be still, O my soul, and know that He is God.
He will be exalted. He will be exalted.

The kingdoms totter, the nations rage,
But when He speaks the earth melts away.
Behold His power, the Prince of peace:
He breaks the bow, He makes wars to cease.

There is a river whose streams make us glad,
For God dwells with His people; He is our strength.

Be still, O my soul, and know that He is God.
Be still, O my soul, and know that He is God.
He will be exalted. You will be exalted, O Lord.
I know that You are God. I know that You are God.
You will be exalted. You will be exalted, O Lord.

Among the people, among the nations, exalted in the earth!
Among the people, among the nations, exalted, O Lord!
Among the people, among the nations, exalted in the earth!
Among the people, among the nations, exalted, O Lord!

Be still, O my soul, and know that He is God.
Be still, O my soul, and know that He is God.
He will be exalted. He will be exalted.
