Psalm 127
Psalms 120-134 are called Psalms of Ascent, most likely because they were sung by worshipers ascending to Jerusalem for the annual festivals. In Psalm 127, the worshipers are reminded that it is God who builds the house. We need God inhabiting all of our labor if we are to be fruitful. In Hebrew the word "house" is used not only of a physical house, but also of a household, both of which come from the LORD. At the center of Psalm 127 is an affirmation that God gives his beloved sleep. Following the weekly and daily rhythms of labor and rest is an act of faith, trusting that God is at work and our fruitfulness is in him.
To sing this psalm we adapted words from The Psalter (1912) and set them to an original melody.
