When I started taking piano lessons in 1st grade, my teacher had me learning classical music, almost exclusively. I didn’t mind the style of music, but it also wasn’t bringing me the level of joy I needed to stick with learning the instrument. However, when my older sister started learning this piece, composed by David Lanz, something was awakened in me. I now see that as the turning point in my love of music. I have watched God take this piece and weave it into how I compose my own music now, as if it became the foundational language that brought “words” to what I’ve always longed to create.
