Meteor Shower

Adam Young, the creator of Owl City, frequently writes and sings of loneliness, fear, and despair, counterbalanced with hope, often using light/dark imagery to depict these ideas. Most often, he uses the image of stars (including shooting stars) at night, illustrating hope in the face of darkness. The text of “Meteor Shower” is as follows: “I can finally see that You’re right there beside me. I am not my own, for I have been made new. Please don’t let me go—I desperately need You.” The speaker in the song realizes that he is not alone, because God is with him, and, loosely referencing 1 Cor. 6:19 and 2 Cor. 5:17, he connects this realization with the understanding that he belongs to God, who has made him a new creation.
