Jesus Is the Christ

In chapter 16 we reach the theological heart of the Gospel according to Matthew. The 15 chapters before this build to the culmination of Peter's confession in v. 16. The remaining chapters of Matthew verify the validity of Peter's declaration that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Furthermore, the whole Gospel is structured to call its readers to echo Peter's conclusion and declaration of allegiance.
