Psalm 24
Psalm 24 celebrates the LORD Almighty, the King of Glory, entering Zion and was probably originally used to celebrate the ark of the covenant coming into Jerusalem. Following the Apostle Paul's use of Psalm 68 (another psalm celebrating the LORD's entrance into Zion), the church has historically used Psalm 24 to celebrate Christ's ascension into the heavenly Jerusalem.
Our setting of Psalm 24 is, as Isaac Watts would say, "imitated in the language of the New Testament". Originally written for our Palm Sunday service in 2008, this setting uses the imagery of Psalm 24 to rejoice in Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem, his ascent to the cross, and his resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God in the heavenly Jerusalem. Our setting of Psalm 24 was first recorded in 2011 on the album From the House of Our Pilgrimage by Joel and Naomi Stamoolis.
This recording features Connie Stahle and Linda Smith on vocals, Joel Stamoolis on vocals and guitar, Anne-Renee Gumley on vocals and piano, Dale Tumey on tenor saxophone, Stefan Marty on bass, and Jeremy Bloomstrom on drums.
