From Leila: Growing up in the Philippines, my mother was always singing. When I was five years old she took all her children to Vacation Bible School. That was my first time to sing songs that told how Jesus loves all the children of the world. Our VBS teachers looked very happy when they were teaching and they planted seeds of Jesus’ love in my heart. In college, I decided to follow Jesus. My Campus Crusade for Christ friends and I enjoyed going to communities and teaching children to sing Bible songs. After marrying Tom, our love for teaching children music has continued for 48 years! Here at WBC we get to sing with Kids Worship and Littles Worship. When Tom and I go to Guatemala and the Philippines to visit missions, I like having my ukulele with me and singing with the children. In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” So teaching children Bible songs is a very early form of discipleship. One that I believe Jesus himself enjoys.
