There is no discipleship without obedience. Jesus tells us in John 15 that our obedience is what keeps us abiding in his love and that obedience results in full joy. The story I’m reading is meant to be an allegory of The Fall from the Book of Genesis and the hopelessness that results from the choice to disobey. But in it I see a good example of the freedom and liberty and joy that come when we choose obedience as good disciples of our King Jesus.
